Drummers on first evening in Edinburgh

I have just arrived back from a recent visit to Edinburgh.  I haven’t visited the city since I was a teenager so was really looking forward to going there and experiencing the annual festival.  I went to, initially see the Dazzle jewellery exhibition which is on for approximately two weeks and attended the private view.  I currently have work on display at the show and am showing my 18 carat ethical gold pieces which have colourful gemstones.  The private view was buzzing and really busy with lots of jewellery being sold.

As there is so much happening in the city it was great to explore the central area and to visit some of the exhibitions which are taking place.  The central part of the city is beautiful and luckily I was staying in an area which was really picturesque, with the local botanical gardens within walking distance.  On my last day I spent some time in the botanical gardens which was very relaxing.

During the few days that I was in Edinburgh I went to see the Summer open studios at Coburge House, a building which houses many artists and craftspeople.  I saw lots of lovely work there and especially liked some of the bags created by Catherine Aitken.  I also went to see the Craft Scotland show which is at the top of White Stuff on George street, such a good idea to have an exhibition there.  There was also great work to see at the Open Eye gallery at Abercromby Place and the Scottish Gallery on Dundas Street,  the art and crafts there is of a very high standard and by renowned designers and artists.  On Dundas street there is also an exhibition with work by Carolina Mizrahi and Juno Calypso, I was struck by the pink photos as I walked into the gallery.  On the same street there is also a another great gallery which has photos by photographer Colin Homes which are all created by using film and are taken on the photographers travels and around Scotland as well.

At the Fruitmarket gallery there is an exhibition by an artist called Damian Ortega which was very interesting.  Some of the ceramics looked like crashing waves.  At the Dovecoat gallery as well as the Dazzle show there is also contemporary art on show using materials such as glass.

Across the road from the Fruitmarket gallery there is the City Art Centre which was great to see and had contemporary art as well as more traditional works of art and at the moment there is an exhibition called the Paper Trail.  It is a lovely place to visit with a very nice cafe.  There are also larger galleries such as the Scottish National gallery which was also good to see.

As well as lots of exhibitions to see there is music, theatre and other activities.  I saw lots of music being played on the street and there is one street which has lots of free entertainment, unfortunately the area was too busy for me to attempt to visit.  It is an exciting city to visit at the moment and it is a beautiful city with many scenic views and beautiful buildings.  It is also very relaxed and great for strolling around.
